Re: PGPGA Pennsylvania Pumpkin Bowl Vl Altoona, PA

My option only, not a chance & shouldn't be, let's keep the breed clear, If you wish to grow a squashum . do it
But don't  litter up what has become a real sport, define the difference, I have grown both, trying to cheat a bit, they
are not the same, just a cross bred. Answer privately if you wish, so we don't litter up the list, I've researched this subject
In the last year to no end & have come up with nothing, If in question, use the grid & live by it, may not please you but is the
best tool as yet I have seen. I'm talking both sides of the road. Been on both sides. I'm open to arguments and comments
Privately as this has already run the gamete on the list. Thank you Duncan

Hey Gus,
I have to agree with you. There is one place where the color of ones skin doesn't matter, It is Circleville Ohio. Now I know not many can compete there " you have to live in a 20 mile radius" but one thing is clear  BIGGEST FRUIT WINS  period. I know the weights of the pumpkins appear to be bigger than the squash, but that is only because they are not grown as much because of prize money. But if that was changed I bet you would start seeing 1100lb + squash also.
I know that will never change , but if a small town can turn the other cheek how about the big weighoffs ? .........Paul

I must protest!

I noticed the squash category only has a $100 first prize.  This can be seen in contests across the board.  I realize people are looking for orange, but if I grow a 1000# squash and take it to a weigh-off as the largest fruit, I would be pretty upset if someone with a 900# pumpkin won ten times what I won! (These are fictional numbers for the sake of argument!)

Why can t we set up the prize money for the biggest FRUIT?  Would this truly lead to withdraw of sponsorship for prize money?  Would anyone be terribly hurt by this?  I know it would have eliminated some controversy in Ohio last year.

Why can t we all just get along?

I would appreciate feedback on this idea for myself and other greenies on the list.

Rocky and all,

Altoona registration time is 8am-10am. We will weigh/measure our "smaller" Giant Vegetables starting at 10am. Giant Pumpkin weighing should be underway by 11am.

We are looking forward to a fun day. From what I'm hearing we should have a a lot of nice pumpkins and a good top ten this year.

I just picked up the plaques this morning and they look great. Here is a listing of our prize schedule.
