Hello Everyone,
I don't EVER post, but this subject has my attention. I'm Dan's wife Beth (he doesn't post much any more either, and has no clue I'm writing this). I personally LOVE the giant squash, I've been trying to get one to grow for years, but so far no good in the Carlson patch. This is a subject that gets much discussion amongst the growers, and also among the "powers that be" who are in charge of judging just what color a fruit is at the weigh-off. In my humble opinion, a cucurbit is a cucurbit, no matter how you slice it, judge it, or color it, I don't think it should matter whether it's green, orange, yellow or purple for that matter, it's a giant cucurbit. Our weigh off doesn't distinguish between colors unless it's in for GPC money, then we must make a choice on whether it's a squash or a pumpkin, this has caused many problems in the past, since we see it one way and as soon as a photo is published, then people start haggling about what color that fruit "really" is. If it were up to me, there would be NO color distinction, therefore ending all arguments, seems simple to me, how about it heads of the GPC? Thank you all for your time and if you are reading this far, for not deleting my message :-) Pumpkin hugs to you all.........
Bethie
