What if the contest was for the heaviest "pumpkin" and they got broken
down into "orange shades" and "non-orange shades?" After all, AG's are
botanically squash anyway, aren't they? If you are gonna call an orange
squash (AG) a pumpkin then I guess calling a green squash a pumpkin
isn't that much worse. And ask Alun, they're probably all called
"gourds" on his side of the pond. I think pumpkins got their
classification because of their use and representation of the typical
orange Halloween symbolic fruit, which is usually a C. Pepo anyway.
Besides, would you sign up for a List named
"mostlyshadesoforangebutalsogreenandblueandgraycucurbitamaximas@mallorn.
com?"
Hence, "pumpkins."
Maybe the "sponsors" should be better educated that there are different
colors of "pumpkins" and have 2 different top prizes. Tell the sponsors
how "rare" those green/gray "pumpkins" are and they'd be "trailblazers"
for sponsoring them.
