Re: easy to tell if it is squash...

After the weighoff in Canby, I agree too.  If its all green, its squash, all others, pumpkins.  It was hard to see two fruit that were pumpkins early that turned into squash by weighoff day, ruled a squash, and were pumpkins.  Ahhh  this is nuts, and puts judges, growers, and coordinators in a crappy situation.  I was there.  I have been screwed both ways by the 25/75 thing.  I lost a spot in 2000 in the GPC prize list when a certain 1000 pound squash (by current standards) was ruled a pumpkin, and lost the GPC squash title when a pumpkin (by current standards) was ruled a squash also in 2000.  The grower didn't even want the pumpkin to be a squash.  I even think he was a bit pissed.
We have good rules now, but we also need someone with brass spheres to enforce them.  The other option, is to go all green is a squash, all else is a pumpkin.  Lets level this playing field.  This controversial subject is at a head and needs to be resolved.
