If I were king, there would be two categories. All orange (pumpkins), all else
squash. Prize money goes to the pumpkins. The squash can watch. The problem seems
to be that everyone is afraid to vote all orange because for so long we have
allowed growers to cheat by inbreeding green into the Atlantic Giant to point
were they no longer breed true and we're all afraid our own seed stock can not be
trusted to grow a true pumpkin. The truth is most of us want orange, the sponsors
want orange, the mothers that bring their children to our weigh off's want orange
and no amount of half witted rationalizing is going to change that. It's time the
GPC stands up and carves the rules in stone. No special this for that or that for
this. No special consideration for this weigh off or that weigh off. Nothing
generates more dissent then ambiguous rules with no backbone behind them.
