Gentlemen: Can we not
discuss this civilly, without using name-calling or wishing ill will on someone’s
season? Let’s look at the
issues. On the
legal side, you have the copyrights.
Technically, no one is to sell the seeds without Howard Dill’s (or other
copyright holder) permission. Mark
obviously has his own opinion/interpretation of the copyright. While I don’t happen to agree with his opinion,
I do not condemn him for it. With different people offering their opinions on
the list he may change his opinion, but that is still his option. If one wishes to challenge the legality
of this sale, do it in the courts, don’t just whine on the list. By the way, how many of you out there
have never traded for a seed with cash? On the
Sportsmanship side, you have the free enterprise trading of seeds. I agree that many of his seeds were
obtained through the generosity of other growers, and selling them may be a
slap in the face to some of them. Again,
if people offer their opinions in a civil manner, maybe Mark will change his
mind. If he does not, then we will
have to deal with any backlash in free seed trading. If you are a grower who has given seeds to Mark in the past
and feel hurt by his decision, let him know. On the
competitive side, if you wish to participate in this sale, you have the
info. Just keep in mind that the
buyer has to answer to the same legal and moral issues of the seller. Also, you had better have some money,
have you looked at the bids?
Evidently there are a lot of people who do not have a problem with this. I
encourage everyone to offer his or her opinions to Mark, but keep it
Civil. (I encourage you to look at
your own practices in depth before condemning his.) If it is relevant to everyone, please post it to the list. If not, please send private messages to
Mark. This is his decision to
make, and his ALONE. Whether it is
legal or sportsmanlike is irrelevant.
Mark never said ‘I’m doing this no matter what you say’. Give him a
chance. -Gus -----Original

Seed collection Shame on you: Because we respect the law, you have the
gaull to call me a Bleeding Heart, I think my record shows different, Take the
money and run Mark. Don't worry about all these Bleeding Heart Liberals. The
only time you hear anything from Ray Waterman on this list is when he is
selling something. The Dill's, never no disrespect . Take care of number one!! -----

the seeds I listed produce anything but stable and uniform fruit. So my
assumption is that they must be regular atlantic giants, which would
be fine to list on Ebay. Mark Shymanski -----
