List,
Saturday is a big Weigh-Off day for many of us.
The clock is ticking down and rumors of "The Big One"
are starting to fly. For some reason the rumor mill is a
lot more active than in years past.....here are
some examples of some rumors that I have heard the past week
via e-mail, telephone or word-of-mouth.....
1. There is a pumpkin in southern California that
weighs over 1100 lbs.
2. There are at least 3 pumpkins in NY, PA and OH that
are at least 1300 lbs.
3. Rock Rivard has 2 more in his patch bigger than
his 1178.
4. In the Northwest there is one 1400 pounder and one
1500 pounder.
5. Jerry Rose has so many big ones that Ohio National Guard
is guarding his patch 24 hours a day.
6. Len Stellpflug has been culling all of the squash in his
patch under 1200 lbs.
7. Jack LaRue has a pumpkin in his patch well over 1000 lbs. grown
on a plant with only 3 leaves on it.
8. Every grower in Connecticut has at least one pumpkin with
an OTT of 398 inches.
9. In Nevada, Scott Goodpasture has a plant thats over 8,000 sq.ft.
and has so many large pumpkins on it that he will probably enter
and win 18 weigh-offs in 12 different states.
10. And lastly.....I have heard a rumor that pumpkin growers never
lie or exaggerate...... so all of the above must be true ! (>:
Soon all the cards will be on the table.
Best of Luck to All at the Weigh-Offs.
George
