First, shoot your hubby (for you animal lovers out there...with a camera).
Get some silicone caulk and fill up the crack AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! This
will slow down the rotting process. Keep the fruit as cool and shaded as
possible. Hopefully, when you carve it for Halloween, it won't be full of
rotted goo, but don't be surprised.
Actually, to save your noses, if you want a carved design, just carve it
skin deep. If you go all the way to the cavity, you will get into that rot
and your fruit won't last very long after that.
Hope everything works out for you.

---SO my pumpkin stopped growing, so my insane hubby
decided he could move it all by himself. well when
were placing it in place out front he rolled it and
well as I am sure all of you know the huge weight of
it caused it to split in a section on its back....
besides his unending apologies is there anything I can
do to prolong its life until halloween ? the crack in
it is about 12inches.
