RE: black spot disease--LEAVES
Where did you get this info? I'm not really questioning it, but would like
to be able to say where I saw it, since the people I'd pass it on to
probably wouldn't believe it without reading it themselves.
And has anybody answered the original post about black spot? And what about
elm leaves, any good? (if it they got wiped out by Dutch Elm disease, then
maybe it's a Slippery Elm next door; and it sure puts out tons of eye-shaped
seeds--I have hundreds that sprouted in my patch.)
Thanks.
Mark in Buff.

Leaves of most trees contain twice as many minerals as manure. The mineral
content of a sugar maple leaf is over 5%. Leaves are most valuable for the
large amounts of fibrous organic matter that they supply ( calcium,
magnesium, nitrogen, phosphorus plus trace elements). It has been said that
their humus-building qualities improve soil structure. They tend to aerate
heavy clay soils and in sandy soils they help to soak up water.

Hi Dave,
Bryan Dueck didn't add any maple leaves to his patch last year. So I'm doing
the same this year, I really don't think there is any valuable nutrients in
leaves since they are mostly carbon when you till them in.
