Re: Soft spot on pumpkin

Hi Kim,
Try cutting out the soft spot with a spoon. Make sure you remove a little of the good flesh in order to guarantee all the bad stuff is removed. Sprinkle a good dose of pure sulfur on the area. That should stop it from spreading furthur unless the dollar size is only a small sized bleamish is like an iceburg where most of it (the bad stuff) is under the skin. If the wound goes into the softer material of the pumpkin the pumpkin is doomed!

Subject: Soft spot on pumpkin

I just removed one of my pumpkins from the patch and there is a half dollar
size soft spot on the bottom. It is starting to grow. The rest of it looks
good and solid. I don't want it to rot through before Halloween. Is there
anything I can do to keep this spot from going through? should I cut it out?
Seal with wax? Shellac? This is my biggest one (285) and after a frustrating
year I don't want to lose this one. Any help will be appreciated.
