Re: I need advice on pumpkins.

Jill,

train the main vine to grow in a straight line and then train each side vine to grow at 90 degree angle to the main. remove any vine that grows on the side vines. cover the vines with soil at least at the leaf nodes. this is where the 'tap roots' will grow. they grow under the vines at the leaf nodes and help the hold the vines in place and get more nutrients from the soil. male flowers will appear first with the females appearing about ten days later.

Hi there,

I live in Zambia, Central Africa, and have entered a completion to grow an
Atlantic Dill Pumpkin. This is being done to support a swimming club and has
taken off big time.

I planted 3 seeds all of which are doing well, I am a gardener but could
really do with a advice on how to proceed. All the pumpkin seeds are throwing
vines, do I keep all the vines on the plant or take some off to encourage the
stronger ones? What do you consider a tap root?

I would really appreciate some help and photos if possible, never grown a
pumpkin in my life and would love some good advice.

Looking forward to contact ,

Kind regards, Jill Patterson.
