RE: Other stuff..

Hi Belle,

I am also a farmer's daughter who lives on a farm. In fact, just last month,
we moved from the farm we were renting to take over my parents' farm because
they are retiring. Until this fall my husband had been juggling a truck
driving job (for a custom silage and corral cleaning outfit) and farming, so
now we'll be able to concentrate only on farming -- just more of it! We have
a herd of beef cattle, a couple of horses, and also grow some grain. We live
near Pickardville, Alberta. Where do you live, Belle?

I have three small children and a home business which consists of freelance
writing and photography. Mainly, I do feature stories about interesting or
successful farmers for various agricultural newspapers and magazines.

As for giant pumpkins, this was my first year trying to grow them. I guess I
didn't water, fertilize, bury vines, etc. enough, because the biggest AG I
harvested was only about 15 pounds (I had two plants). My one Jack-o-lantern
variety plant yielded three beautiful 30-35 pound pumpkins which I am quite
pleased with.

I plan to try again next year with AGs and hopefully improve my results
dramatically (putting into practise all I've learned from this mailing list)
If anyone out there has a few seeds they want to part with, I'd be
interested in hearing from you.
