Smokey Lake was great!

Greetings,

I took my three kids (4, 3 and 1) and drove the ~1.5 hours to get to the
Smokey Lake weigh-off last weekend just to be spectators. Our attempt at
growing a big AG didn't pan out this year, but since the kids and I have
been "hyped" all year about big pumpkins, I knew we would all enjoy it
tremendously. Talk about a great event! There was so much to see and do, and
I couldn't believe the crowds!

They had a great petting zoo, a face painter, a man making balloon
creatures, a big farmer's market and a small midway, not to mention the
gigantic inflatable jack-o-lantern that could be seen from great distances.
We all had a fantastic time.

It was exciting to, not get a close-up look at the winning pumpkin, but to
view the entries from mailing list members Bill Kournikakis from Smokey Lake
and Kurt Frederick from Edmonton. I took pictures of my kids beside each of
their pumpkins, since I feel like I know them. I just wish I had been able
to find these guys to say hi in person. I hadn't made the final commitment
to attend until that morning, so I couldn't warn them that I'd be looking
for them. Anyway, we're already looking forward to next year.

It was a fun season and thanks to all of you for the mailing list advice,
jokes, poems, etc.

Happy Thanksgiving this weekend to all my Canadian counterparts. I am
thankful for discovering this new hobby and "getting to know" such a nice
bunch of people.
