Yes there is prize money.  Prize breakdown for pumpkins is as follows:

1st: $1200 plus plaque
2nd: $500 plus plaque
3rd: $250 plus plaque
4th: $150 plus ribbon
5th: $125 plus ribbon
6th $100 plus ribbon
7th to 10th $50 plus ribbon

Entry fee was $20

As for being a professional grower, even winning first place (I wish!!)
would not let me break even.
