other stuff

I am also a physician, (radiologist) avid gardener, and frustrated farmer.
Orchids are not for me. This was/is my first growing year of AG's which I
had planned to make the 1997 "fun crop" Of course I soon became hooked and
suave and am having a ball. I managed to have a best of 392lbs. and several
close behind. They are sitting all around the yard and a few still out in
the patch.

I too cannot thank the people in this group enough for their cordiality and
untiring responses and advice. It seems we are from many different
backgrounds. One common thread I think I detect however is that a lot of
heavy hitters are retired. I hope my patients understand a little dirt
under the fingernails occasionally.

Now that I have learned what a Sag Ring is I am proud to say that I had a
plant which grew several pumpkins with this configuration, the largest
around 350lbs. Proud because every kid that came over to see the pumpkins
immediately ran to "Miss Chair" as she became to be known and took a seat
in the pumpkin chair. This was a great photo opt until I donated the
pumpkin to a local festival.

I have a project in mind for next growing season and would like some
suggestions. I am planning to label some water with a small amount of
radioactivity and spot water some of my vines at different places as a
means to help with pruning and determining optimal length of main vine etc.
I am assuming that if I measure radioactivity in the pumpkin it means the
water did some good other than contminate the ground. Please don't all of
the environmentalists panic. I will use a relatively short lived low dose
isotope to avoid that problem. If the pumpkin gets big enough for your
child to sit on it will be safe. For weigh off I would be happy to provide
a lead shield as this would surely increase my chances. Seriously I would
appreciate any input you all might have as for now this is only an idea.

Ciao, John
