Dear Rick in Wisconsin:
I remember reading a story in the Akron Beacon Journal about a stolen AG
pumpkin in 1994. A search of http://www.ohio.com in the site's archives
library turned up only the bare particulars about the theft.
It seems someone stole a 440 pound pumpkin from Alvin and Lana Rufener's
Hilltop Farm (located south of Akron, Ohio.) This happened around Oct. 16.
94.
The pumpkin was found a couple of days later in a third story room of a
college dormitory. 5 freshman students at Wash University faced suspension.
Actually the pumpkin, when found, was broken into many smaller parts. The
feshmen said they dropped it a couple of times when they were carring it up
three flights of steps. HAAAAA~!
When the students read about about their theft in the newspaper and
learned the Rufener's were most concerned about the return of the pumpkin's
seed - well they said they were planning on returning the seed - when they
the dorm personel found-out. This happened on Oct 18. 94.
Rick - if you are serious about getting your pumpkin back, or maybe even
just the seed, I'd suggest you canvas all your local college campuses.
There was a very similar posting on this e-mail list a couple of weeks ago
about a similar college prank involving a stolen pumpkin, a dorm room and a
certian mess unrealized until the end of the school year.
The way I see it - The Bigger You Grow'em The Safer They'll Be
Good Luck Rick
Michael in Akron
