Re: Process for Revising WPC OR GPC Rules?
Hello All,
I am EXTREMELY new to this fine sport of Pumpkin Growing, But if a
"comment" is asked for I can certainly oblige in that department.
My gut feeling is that for a Pumpkin to be accepted into the Guiness
Book of World Records it should also pass any requirement of the
governing Pumpkin Bodies. Ie G.P.C., W.P.C., I.P.A., Townsfield Fair,
Half Moon Bay, etc etc. These rules were put in place (I suspect) only
to be sure that if a pumpkin qualifys there shouldnt be any question as
to its true weight. The main rule being that there cannot be any hole
that reaches into the seed cavity. Is the reason for this that something
could be inserted into the pumpkin that could alter its weight?
A possible problem with this is that as we know the Pumpkin
Governing bodies are "splintered" and don't all share the exact same set
of rules. So any pumpkin could sneak through some weigh in with lesser
standards or inspections.
So in conclusion I can only see two solutions to the problem.
A. Guiness only accepts Pumpkins from a Governing body that has an
internationally accepted and enforced set of rules.
B. Guiness has their own set of rules for qualifying a pumpkin for
the book and that all weigh ins know what the criteria is so that they
could also qualify a Pumpkin for guiness acceptance.
I am sure that we all have an opinion on this. Lets hear it.
