season ending Brock561 & 706, Failor's 444 & Shapiro 506

Last spring I received the following seed and promised I'd let you know
how they turned out.

Brock 561 had two high shouldered pumpkins going, this plant received
minimal fertilization & watering. Smaller one developed rot on bottom,
larger one reached 298.5 inches and 553 pounds placing tenth at Anamosa.
Very thick shouldered. The seed from this will be Brock 561 x Brock 706

Brock 706 was a flatter pumpkin, almost all fruit were pear shaped but
one. I ended up pushing the one symetrical fruit to 314 inches before
blossom end opened up in the middle of August. This one grew fast,
possibly on pace to reach about 740 pounds, but I gave it to much
fertilizer once growth slowed down a little, it picked up pace again but
split on me. It's thickness was in the 5-8 inch range. I kept the seed
which is crossed to the Brock 561.

Failor's 444 had a pony barrel grow to an estimated 450 pounds before
rot set in. I started another in early August that reached a measured
weight of 412 pounds they both were light colored and seemed immature
all the time, no canteloping or dark orange noticed, plant grew very
strongly. My daughter had claim to this plant and she never did bury any
of the vines but still managed first place at a local contest.

Shapiro's 506 had 4 pumpkins on it at one time, one rotted and two were
culled at about 250 pounds each, the last one measured out at about 467
pounds but feels very dense. It'll make a nice round giant
Jack-O-Latern.

Thank-you Fellow Pumpkin Growers for the seed !!!

Next Year !!
