Half Moon Bay Great Pumpkin Weigh Off

The pre-registered entries are in and it looks like we are ready for
another exciting and competitive weigh.
For growers looking for lunch tickets they will be given to you at
registration.
Little twist this year....we will have all growers enter Main Street at
Highway 92.  All growers will be greeted by one of our volunteers and
s/he will send you either east on Correas Street or ask you to continue
down Main Street to Monte Vista Street.  You will be greeted at the
corner with registration information, your Safeway hat and shirt, and
lunch tickets.
Try as we might there is no way to park all vehicles and remove the
pumpkins on Johnston Street.  We will ask growers of the larger pumpkins
to park PARALLEL behind the IDES hall -- their vehicles will stay in
place throughout the weigh.
Other growers will be asked to stay with their vehicles and stage behind
the hall.  We have arranged for parking behind the Farm Bureau Building
(the only empty disked field on Johnston) after your pumpkin is
weighed.  Once that area is full their is parking on the side streets.
We are asking the growers to come forward with their pumpkins for
weighing and then return to their vehicles.  It is our hope that all
growers will be able to see most of the weigh.  We recognize the desire
to be able to park and lock and be in attendance for all of the weighing
but it is not possible.  WE DO NOT WANT TO DISCOURAGE ANY ENTRANTS.
PLEASE DO NOT LOOK UPON THIS AS NOT WANTING TO WEIGH ALL PUMPKINS
BROUGHT TO THE CONTEST.  As a result of the Festival Half Moon Bay is
growing as a tourist destination and new shops on Main Street have
caused the change.
We will again be utilizing 3 fork lifts so the process should be quick.
Responses from the press have been fantastic.  They will probably appear
on Johnston Street for pre-interviews.
As Safeway is an official sponsor of the Weigh-Off we ask that you
please wear their shirt/hat if you are comfortable.
We continue to try to improve our weigh with your input.  Your help is
appreciated.  For those of you I have not met I will be the one in the
pointed hat....please give me or our new co-chair John Bianchi your
ideas.
