Almost a month ago I reported that my biggest pumpkin had a rib split hole
that I thought had gone to the cavity. The hole was small and so I thought
"why not see how much longer I can get it to grow". I used a new technique
to seal the hole. All went well until last Monday when I noticed some
softening around the hole. The softening has now extend to be a 6-8" circle.
I planned on taking the pumpkin to Canby this weekend just to get an
official "for display only" weighing. I am now torn about moving a pumpkin
to a public arena with this much softening, concerned about what the proper
pumpkin growers etiquette is on this issue and seek this list's input. I am
sure I wouldn't care so about getting this bad girl weighed were it not for
the fact that she has a circumference of 157", which charts out as 834 lbs.
Now this is pushing towards the Oregon state record of 866 lbs. I have to
ask myself "how many 800 lb pumpkins do you think you will ever grow bucko,
and why didn't you drive to Carnation, Wa last weekend?"
What to do, what to do.
(Is this the fun part?)
