Bob,
Heres my understanding
You are correct in what you say and I think it depends how you read the
family trees...............thats why they are extended

1 Genes come in pairs

2. at the time of pollination the pairs drop a gene to make ready for the
new union from other.

3. Now when you plant a seed you are actually planting all four of the
grandparents with 1/4 characteristics from each one

Last year I came to the same conclusion as i think you are stating
here.............i tried to find seed that was crossed with two sucessful
parents that year in the same patch.............for example the Larue 812
....the were two pumpkins on this plant the 812 and the 916 .......now the
812 was crossed with another sucessful plant in the patch the 563geerts
which produced the 868larue.........so both plants and pumpkins were
great...the characteristics were seen.......so what happened.....the plant
didn't do well??....but i still think this is a good approach to
use...............brock
