Re: world class cross

That is an idea which I have thought allot about as well.
What procedure where you thinking? Possibilities that I can come up with are
(and I have no idea if they would work?)
1 - Rooting a vine tip in a large pail of rooting medium then cutting it off
the main plant and storing the plant in the basement in something like a
root cellar or cold storage?
2 - Taking a live section of vine, with many roots sections and coiling the
vine up and burying the whole thing in a box of sand in a root cellar and
hoping to find a live segment in the spring to baby back to life?
3 - Either of the above methods stored in a friends greenhouse.
4 - Carefully digging as much of the main stump out as I could and burying
it in damp sand in a root cellar and hope by spring time that a little green
would be still alive that could be brought back to life.

I think the number 4 idea may have the most potential. You know how the
stump produces the miniature vines that keep popping out from the stump? If
you were to bury as much of the stump in damp sand in a cool place and keep
pinching off the green nodes that appear on it say till about April and hope
that by April you could let one go and get it rooted enough that you could
sever it from the stump in time to plant outdoors?

Guess we were thinking along the same wavelength, although the success of
such a project would not likely be too good.
Possibly with a lot of space in a greenhouse it could be done. I will talk
to a friend of mine who keeps his large greenhouse heated all winter long to
keep alive some tropical plants. This person has a large greenhouse and
start up a bunch of bedding plants in the spring and most of his greenhouse
is vacant all winter until February, March when he starts the bedding
plants. This guy is a wizard with plants - has 2 green thumbs and 8 green
fingers - so will bounce the idea off of him as well.
What are your ideas?
