Re: concave bottom
I have grown one of these myself and the pumpkin that Brett Hester brought
to the Carnation weigh-off had this. His was light, mine was heavy, but
when I opened it up it was very thin on the bottom. I think the reason this
occurs is because as the pumpkin expands and grows it needs a surface that
has some give to it to allow it to expand. Sand works well for many
growers. This year I put straw under my pumpkins and it seemed to work OK
with the ones I've taken out of the patch so far. We'll see how the bottoms
on the larger ones look when I harvest them later.
