Broke my collar bone
Well, just another thing to go wrong to try to stop me from growing my
pumpkins, talk about continuous bad luck.
I was riding my bike to where the pumpkin patch is, and it was getting dark,
so I was hurrying to get ther before all of the light was gone. It is a few
miles away, and goes down a dark section of road with traffic whizzing by,
whihc I hate, because it is extremely dangerous since near a section of
bridge there are railings which force you to be almost IN the street, inches
from the traffic that can't really see you that well.
Anyway, while worrying about that, I was making sure to didge all of the
mailboxes and other obstacles that pop up from nowhere (and I thought I had
them ALL memorized by now, since I go every day, all summer, etc.). But I was
going and then a black STOP sign post popped up from nowhere, WAY too far in
for a stop sign, and I only saw it when I was about a foot away from it, I
turned by bike but it smashed right into my chest in my right collarbone. It
just about knocked me off the bike. So of course it hurts extremely bad, and
I was hoping that it was just bruised. My parents wanted to take me to the
E.R. for an X-ray, but I didn't want to go, since I was hoping it was just
bruised and I didn't want to have anything wrapped up that would stop me from
being able to do pumpkin stuff, plus it would have taken all night in the
waiting room, probably. But it still hurt yesterday, (the accident was the
night before last), and so we went to our regular doctor and he had an X-ray
done, and it turns out it is broken. I asked if it was just a crack and he
said "no, it's definitely broke". But he said it was a "clean" break. (Like
that makes me feel any better about it). Anyway, I have this "X" thing that
basically just holds my sholders so I can't round them, so the collarbone
won't move and dislocate, etc. He also said I am not allowed to take it off
at all, even to shower, until he checks it again in 2 weeks. It usually takes
a month to heal. And I am not supposed to lift anything with my right arm
that would use my shoulder, etc. The doctor said I wasn;t allowed to do any
of the pumpkin or gardening stuff. But THIS AIN'T STOPPING ME! I'll do it all
with my left hand and arm, I don't care if it takes me twice as long. And my
dad helps out a lot, covering everything with plastic anf row cover, hot
water bottles, etc. We were out there for 3 hours last night covering
everything to protect from the frost/freeze warning. I sprayed seaweed on
everything, and covered with FRC, and we both put 25 gallons of hot water
bottles under it all, and plastic tenting over that.
And hey, at least I got a day off from school, so I guess it isn't too bad.
It hurts a lot now though, when I move my arm certain ways that involves
movement in the shoulder. I just have to learn which movements to avoid, etc.
I just hope the doctor doesn't find out I am still doing it. Ha ha! My
parents didn't argue too much since they know NOTHING would keep me away from
the pumpkins, etc. However they don;t want me to go on the boke there in the
dark again. Go figure. I should still be able to ride the bike though, or if
not, I'll just walk. Anyway, those of you who think you have stuff go wrong
for you, I pretty much have all of it and more, so don't feel bad! Now when I
go out to the patch next, watch me get hit by lightning or something. I swear
someone (or something) doesn't want me to grow these pumpkins!
