Happy Birthday!
My suggestion is to place it on the scale and be happy with the pounds
you get. A 400 pound pumpkin is a great accomplishment. Now if your
really in need of a few pounds I think you might be a little heavier in
the morning vs. the late afternoon because of the nighttime temps are
cooler and the plant is getting soil moisture without the heat of the sun
evaporating excess moisture. Just a thought and don't really know the
answer. I have also seen growers wrap their pumpkins in wet sheets in
hopes the webbing will pick up a few ounces of water weight. The latter
theory seems like it would make the pumpkin weigh more. Once again I
would suggest nothing but natural pumpkin and hope for the best.
