My personal opinions ,for what they are worth, are below.
1. I believe OTT measurements should be absolutely mandatory at the
weighoffs .This is the first step in possible determination if a pumpkin is
loaded with water/other.A large % over the charts should trigger a greater
effort in inspections.(trust me...it happpens-I just went through it)
2. Although I prefer to be open and honest w/anything i do and am more
than
willing to share any info i have/can with anyone interested in this
activity,AND i owe a great deal to the people in this hobby,especially on
this list,(I realize that the people on this list are the best in the
world),AND I realize that sooooooo much of the successes and failures are
due
to luck/fate,I cannot say that everyone should have to tell me what seed
they
grew.I credit my successes this year in a great part to the sharing of info
by all you great people and the analysis of available information on seed
stocks.With no voluntary info it is even more of a crapshoot-like 34
bijillion to one instead of the very educated 10 bijillion to one for that
monster fruit.But,I still cant tell someone that they have to give up that
info....and if they don't want to and you force them-they will make
something
up which will taint the database and you'll be worse off. Volluntary is,in
my
opinion ,the only way to go.
I hearby ask all of you to offer any and all info to Mike....its 45 % luck
