Re: first year grower-manure ?


Michael, do yourself a favor and do A soil test on your plot, this will give 
you a start point to readjust soil if needed. Either cow/horse manure will 
be fine. Both have ample nutrients to feed your pumpkin.I have used horse 
manure for years, but many use cow. As far as weed seeds, get used to it. If 
you want to play in this league, weeding will become your heaven or hell, so 
it's part of the game.You'll find by adding large amounts of organic 
material to your soil, it will drop your PH levels fairly quick. You may 
need to add barn lime to combat this. I add around 3-5 lbs on my 35'x35' 
plot each year when I add manure. I add 5 yards manure each plant each fall, 
without adding lime my PH levels wouldn't give a good soil
