Dave's show always tapes the same day that it airs, usually about 5pm NY time.
Are you sure it is supposed to be taped a day early?! That woudl be extremely
unusual unless it is part of a taped bit piece, which they do tape a day (or
sometimes up to a week or more) earlier.
Anyway, I'll have to come up with a "Top 10" list for you befor ethen, Top 10
Tips When Appearing With The World Record Pumpkin on the Letterman Show.
One tip is to not to TRY to be funnier than Dave, he hates that, (plus it
never plays well), but to be funny WITHOUT trying. Dave won't let you get
punchlines in unless you catch him off guard. He is going to seem to talk A
LOT, and hardly let you get anything in unless you learn his timing. One sure
fire hit is to refer to him as "Regis", totally with a straight face, before
you answer his questions, like "So Gerry, what do you do there in
Spangler....where is that exactly?"....Gerry: "Well Regis, Spangler is small
town in PA, we are the monkey training capitol of the world....[etc.]"
Then when he corrects you and the audience laughs, act like it was an honest
mistake, saying that you always get them both (Regis and Dave) confused.
Trust me, it will be a hit! When he talks about how much money you won for
the pumpkin, say something like "Well it wasn't as much as you were giving
away on that game show awhile back....". (Which was, of course, Regis
Philbin).
If you are going to be on the regular show and not a pre-taped comedy bit,
then he will probably bring you out on stage and talk to you a bit, then they
will have Moonie behind the main stage doors to reveal after he talks to you
for a couple of minutes.
Don't be too nervous, Dave is cool, but probably won't talk to you too much
before the show like Leno does. Leno will really get to know you and talk to
you a lot before the show. They will probably tell you some stuff to not say
or say to Dave, but you can ignore most of that. Just have fun!
