Yeah I agree...!!!...lol
Deborah
Joe,
As I began to read your recent post I was nearly
compelled to stand and shout "stop!". Any hint of
scientific literacy on this list will be treated
with disdain and you may find yourself leveled and
charged with heresy. I was in the process of
writing to the young man to let him know that he
should simply be satisfied with the knowledge that
pumpkins do float when your email came in. Now I
feel that perhaps you have skimmed over the
subject just enough to whet his appetite for
further information and that I need not reply.
Still, I feel the need to mention that in addition
to the 'density theories', other theories, based
on the sometimes strange and bizarre world of
quantum mechanics might suggest that pumpkins do
not float at all, but rather, hover, just above
the water while displacing a certain amount of
said water.
And what about some of the term you've used:
interpretation
physicists
Theorem
hypotheses
correlative
These are terms of the black art. Can we not
simply say, pumpkins float because we believe they
float? Is it not better to 'just let it happen'
than to try and explain why. Recently I noticed
the word 'genetics' used on this list and almost
wrote to Duncan to have offending scientific term
removed, but fought the urge and now stand firmly
behind you.
I applaud you Joe for standing in the face of
oppression and speaking of such things.
