Re: Another observation, no epiphany.

Beth,
I have often wondered that myself, as it was Kirk Mombert in the IPGA
chat a few months back that stated he thinks if you are going with 2
pumpkins on one plant, go opposite sides, and keep them as far apart as
possible.. Here is why I chipped in..My 815 this year has 2 pumpkins, 5
ft apart, and on the same side of the main vine... ONe is 9 ft out, the
next is 2 sets away (middle one was culled), at 14 ft out.. Both were
very aggressive in thier younger days.... And I have cut many leaves
back to increase flow to my stem splits on both pumpkins, and leaves
from both sides of the main vine, and I havent noticed a tremendous
difference in the water content or crispness of the stems..

Here is the pic of the two side by side..

Both of these shots you can see my leaf clearance, and the main vine ,
that is the size of my wrist... and both on the same side of the main
vine.. I did set alot of fruit on my plants, but the 815 only threw 6
females for me to set, so I let them all go to about 75 - 100 pounds,
and then culled them.. You are correct when you say the vines were
bigger on the pumpkin laced vines..
