Well,to a certain extent canteloping can be genetic in nature....are the
growth rates the same or is the canteloping one growing faster? We know
certain fruits will grow only 60 days and others seem to grow 90
days...perhaps the more canteloped one has aged quicker. My 738 stellpflug of
last year that grew to 568lbs stopped at 62 days.....then nothing for about
20...no cantelouping but smooth skin typical of a stellpflug squash. Then it
grew a bit and canteloped. Also, perhaps canteloping isn't a response to
growth so much...my PUMPKIN this year stopped at 35 days....I thought it
would rot but after 25 days of resting it started to cantelope. No real
increase in size or at least measureably....(or is that miserably?)....but
its canteloping and coloring so I know its alive at least.......and I've had
a blanket over it all summer.............G
