Re: My patch is packed - i'm ready to go
Where are you located? Is this a greenhouse effort? I thought pumpkins got
planted in the spring (I am a newcomer and hence clueless).
Right now I am throwing organic matter on my pumpkin pile and will be all winter
long (southern CT area). I also have 2 compost bins that are full (kitchen &
garden waste) which I will empty in the spring, and I will be getting a lot of
horse manure as well that is somewhat aged.
Does lime go on now, or in the spring? I have a 4ft by 8ft raised bed that is
18" deep which I will be using as a giant central "planter", if you will, and
the vines will be roaming around outside the planter on the straw-covered
ground. The bed will be mounded up as high as possible, but I know large ground
plots as described by some of the growers here are preferable because of the
extensive deep-reaching root systems of pumpkins. In any case, how much lime
should I put on there? When? Does lime in the bag lose its potency over the
wonter? Pelletized or pulverized?
Thanks.
