The Gods Must Be Crazy
I am now battling a Northern California heat wave. It
hit 100 in the shade yesterday after two days in the
high nineties. It is starting to cool off today but
the heat may have stopped lovely Aphrodite (947
Patrick, 320 ott)in her tracks. No growth for the
third day now and the plant has started throwing
female flowers and setting pumpkins all over the
place.
Now I know why Aphrodite, the goddess of sexuality,
was also the goddess of fertility. Today I found a
six foot length of teriary vine with ten pumpkins on
it. Eight pumpkins had formed on a section of vine 10
leaf junctions long. Two more female flowers were
starting a few leaf junctions further out. I also
removed half a dozen set pumpkins from all over the
plant. Pretty amazing stuff. To see a picture of
Aphrodite's little octeplet sisters go to this

Athena (937 Mombert) and Hera (875 Dill) continue to
grow - damn the heat. Over 80 days old and still
going.
These plants never cease to amaze me.
