Marie....good luck !
Most of the state/county fairs are agricultural fairs....they classify the
produce botanically which would make the Atlantic Giant classified as a
squash.
Most of the "Fun Fairs" and contests will rule the Atlantic Giant as a
"pumpkin"..if it isn't green or grey.
The WPC and GPC ,which is what most growers on this list swear by,rules an
Atlantic Giant a pumpkin if it is less than 25% green ,grey ,or blue. They
are not classified agriculturally. These people are an odd lot to say the
least. They consider a white squash more of a pumpkin than a green squash yet
at no time in a classic pumpkins life is it ever white...yet for 95% of its
life a classic pumpkin is green. If you follow that logic then a green AG is
more like a pumpkin than a white one !
Anyway, people "equate" orange with pumpkin and people/spectators make
contests possible (at least the prize money) so orange it is. Its one of
lifes great inequities.......
So it depends on where your going....but technically all AG's are squash
whether they admit it or not...........................G
