Has any one tyied this ??????

I was wondering if any of you has tried this trick?
I study arboriculture for a living and one of the techniques we use to get
oxygen deep into the ground is air spikes (I can not remember the proper
name.)
In this case you would insert PVC pipe (2 inch to 4 inch) from three feet to
six feet into the ground at approximately 3 1/2 feet apart in the growing
area. this would allow bad gases to exit and oxygen to permeate DEEP into the
soil allowing roots to use more of the available ground space and feed
essential micronutrients.
If anyone has used this technique please let me know, I will try it next
year and will let you know how It worked for me.
