Hey Kevin-
I am experimenting w/ a mylar "emergency" blanket over my plant; - (the stump coming out of the ground) although Calif. nights are still pretty mild, I was thinking the warmer I can keep the ground around the plant at night, the quicker it will heat up in the morning, especially now that days are getting shorter & thus less sun & heat. My fruit has been covered w/a shade tent for some time now, so that would protect your pumpkin from frost, but you might give the mylar blanket a try-(shop in camp, backpacking sporting goods)I remove the "blanket" in the morning before I leave for work-Good Luck!!
