Re: Snow and Frost Questions
Rebar & pvc pipe
2 ft sections of rebar 1 ft in groud 1 ft out
10 to 20 ft pvc pipe in the rebar.
or... just lay the remay over the plant.. let the
plant support it. secure the edges..bury them .. what
ever.. seal the edges to the ground all the way around
if you can.
you can put hot water in milk jugs under your remay to
help add heat. or an extention cord and a light
bulb... just make sure the bulb isn't close to
anything or it will heat it up which could cause a
burn or fire.
you can put blankets directly on your pumpkins and
plant too, for that matter.
If you plant completely freezes... the you should cut
the pumpkin and store it in cool dry place till you
want to bring it out. if it jsut partially freezes
then you can leave it out to see if you get any more
fruit growth.
good luck !

.......,,,,,,,,,,,,,,..............,,,,,,,,,..........
The weekend forecast is for snow wand temperatures in
the high 20's. I have
some remay like material (it is actually a bit heavier
than remay) to cover
my plant, but need some ideas on how to support this
over the plant. Just
looking for something quick and easy - temperatures
are expected to warm up
after the weekend. What is the best way to keep the
fruit warm through
this. Should I lose the plant to frost, what then?
Should I just leave the
pumpkin on the mushy vine and bide my time?
Thanks,
Kevin
