Re: just a little batch of questions
Kevin,
100 % compost is not the ideal growing medium.
although amending your soil by adding compost is a
good idea. but i think 2 ft is a little much. Now is
where you ask how much then ?... the answer is it
depends on what type of soil you have now. Clay,
sand, whatever.
just a guess off hand i'd say 2-6 inches is more like
what you would want.
PH ? .. it depends on what you PH is now.
get you soil tested and that will help you both with
the amount of organic matter you need to add and PH.
there are some good archive post on soil topics.
they were made last winter sometime...
see:

look in 12/99 and for threads with Chris Andersen
ie- soil tests- lots of questions- iron
levels-zeolites- adding clay- organic compound
benefits- etc...

I have been composting for about 10 years and I have
a pretty good
grasp on the whole concept. The question is........I
have an unlimited supply
of dry or green grass clippings (I mean by the tons)
so can any one think of
a reason not to compost it and lay it on as thick as
possible?????
In small amounts it is great but I am planning 2 feet
of compost on every
square foot What type of amendments do you suggest to
amend PH??????
I also Work on the beach and have as much kelp
as I could drag home.
The problem is washing it, how well does it need to be
washed????? Any
ideas on techniques to wash it using as little water
as possible???????
I wish to get a nice selection of seeds for next
year and I am going to
spend a small fortune on fertilizer, fish emulsion,
liquid kelp, Soil
emenders, PVC pipe, Watering
clock,tarps,Water,lighting system,Etc. can
anyone help me to find premium seeds??? I am putting
sooooooo much into
making everything right that I would so love to get
the seeds to match my
enthusiasm.
Thank you to all that can help me to "GROW THE BEST
PUMPKIN MY NEIGHBOR KIDS
AND I AM CAPABLE OF"
Thank you all.
