Just a thank you
Hello List, well, I think I've peaked out for the season here in Camp Hill,
PA. I have a pumpkin on the 701.5 Welty I planted thats about 300#, and has
not done much in the past couple of weeks. The pumpkin was pollinated with
a 771 Rockwell on July 15, but the Rockwell was getting continuously
hampered by groundhogs, so basically, it was a buffer plant for the one with
the pumpkin, and served as a pollinater. My 83 year old uncle's plants
didnt do so good, had some nice plants there, but they just never got going
good, and I didnt have time to help him as I would have liked, next year I
guess.
My only pumpkin, yeah, made some mistakes this year, including keeping the
hi nitro fertilizer going too long, which I think kept me from having more
females to pollinate. Just went down last night, and two softball sized
around sections where one of those woodchucks started grazing, covered it
with sulfer powder as instructed by a friend, and hope it keeps till end of
September.
Ok, I must fess up to what my supportive 15 year old daughter named my
pumpkin. Shes quite impressed with even a 300#er now, but early on I asked
her and my wife to name it, they agreed that "WasteOTime" would be
appropriate. As I told another grower, good thing I dont have two on the
vine, then I'd have one named "WasteOSpace" too. Well, with how big its
gotten, they have become a little more appreciative, thank heavens.
Well, daughter goes to school where green and white are colors, so I said
maybe I could help her grow a green one next year, to put out at the fall
frolic,, sort of a mixer for the kids. Would love to get a few nice squash
seeds to plant
Just wanted to give a thank you to all the people on here who agreed to send
me some seeds last year, with being a first year grower and all.
