bear tips

How do you hang rifles?   Does this work for SVB (I'll try anything organic)? 
 
Might there be a flavor to coat a pumpkin with that would be a deterrent but not harmful to the fruit? 
Maybe they smell too much to matter.  Bears are mighty odorous.
