Try pissing in your patch (away from the root system) this has a good chance of detouring the bear but you have to do it more than once and you need REALLY friendly neighbors in case they see ya

How do you hang rifles? Does this work for SVB (I'll try anything organic)?

Might there be a flavor to coat a pumpkin with that would be a deterrent but not harmful to the fruit?

Maybe they smell too much to matter. Bears are mighty odorous.
