This is my experience has it worked for anyone else ??
If you plant too early, then the pumpkins ripen in August and rot in September
This year I started my seeds on May 15th set fruit between July 3rd to 17th the earlier pollinated pumpkins stopped earlier and later for the later pollination's. Now here is an advantage that we have here in Southern CA my 791 Glasier has a 646 EST two over 350 lbs two over 200 lbs and the seprise one pumpkin set 30 feet from the main trunk and is "growing faster than any other pumpkin I have yet grown" this thing is on chart for 500-600 lbs by Halloween. My leaves are still 85% healthy due to the folier feed I have been giving them so in my opinion it is the PUMPKIN itself not the PLANT that decides the date it stops maturing. I will be trying an experiment next year starting my seeds the same time "May 15th" but not setting fruit till June 15-20 Th. as in southern CA we don't get hot until NOW last week of September through October.. Does anyone have any ideas about the maturing process??
That's just my two cents.....
