Re: info ... cutting the main vine, when?

You may want to cut the main vine off after the point of where your pumpkin is set, I would cut it off at 8 feet after the pumpkin, (alot of your top growers do this and I tend to favor it myself) this will force the remaining energy into your growing pumpkins rather than growing leaves and vines

Fertilizer can't hurt, a blend with a high 3rd number would be best, it may be a bit late for fertilizng now, but it can't hurt (ie: 15-15-29), now this is a water soluable based fertilizer, you can foliar feed as well as drench the main hill, just don't get the main trunk of the vine wet at this point.

Subject: info

My first year growing (trying to) a big pumpkin.  I have three, two of which look good (to me).  They are about 31/2 ft long and about 18 inch. in diameter. One looks kinda funny, like an hour glass.  My question is, should I water and fertilize the whole vine including the 25 ft. growing past the pumpkins?  They are still kinda yellow and are starting to grow more every day.  Also does that vine growing past the pumpkin help it to grow?

Thanks,
