Re: Official or Not

I as a rookie grower have not only been intimidated by this thread but have
also come to realize that I would now think twice before taking my fruit, be
it 200 pounds or 1100 pounds, to any weigh off after the display I have
witnessed here. What kind of an example are you, the veterans and mentors
of this great sport, setting for the newcomers, with such bickering,
stabbing and anger. This is a special sport indeed, and every sport
requires rules...but, does anyone on this list, in this thread have the
power and authority to change the way we play this game...no. If you were a
person just getting interested in growing giant pumpkins, wouldn't you think
twice about even becoming involved after reading this thread. Growing
anything is probably one of the most peaceful things one can do...this
thread as well as events and disputes over the past year have made it
something far less than that. I hope everyone takes the time to review what
has been written and think about what the new guy, who wants to have the fun
and fellowship that comes with growing giant pumpkins, is going to think if
these kinds of disputes continue. It seems that folks are more concerned
with who's the best rather than promoting the hobby by asking, who can I
help along to get going or how can I interest more people in this hobby.
I'm sure my input will be taken lightly, coming from a rookie. Just think
about what this hobby is supposed to be all about. I have my opinions on
this thread but they are my own and will remain so. Maybe if we looked at
what has been said, and thought back to when you actually did this for fun,
you would have directed this thread in another direction..We all have other
things in life especially now, that are much more meaningful than who is the
best. I'm sure every organization was founded on the premise of helping
other growers, promoting the hobby and above all, trying to have some fun..
There's enough politics in everything we do, don't let it ruin something as
simple and enjoyable as growing big pumpkins.
