I don't live in Indiana, but I gotta tell you, it would be very hard for me to respect an organization that makes decisions like the one announced by the IPGA. I equate it with the notion that a jury could return a verdict after a trial, and then another person, who had not seen the evidence presented at trial, could overturn the jury's verdict. How can you presume to pass judgment on "leakage" that you yourselves did not inspect? And since you did not inspect it, why would you disregard the judgment of those who did? Absurd. Shame on you. You need better leadership, it seems to me.

WOW I can't believe this....I feel like quitting.........I can tell you right now if I go to a weigh-off and my fruit is ruled OK and then later and I mean later ruled Exh....that would be it for me and that site or organization.....look I respect you guys but your dead wrong.....now I can see abit more of what Andrew was trying to say before..didn't agree totally with him but I can see some of his points now.....if Tom thought he had a fruit that was suspect as to soundness I am sure he would have asked the judges to inspect it...fruit can be both damaged from the trip or the weigh-off handlers....they normally do the very best they can....if the Huber site had ANY and I mean any thought to it being suspect they or the judges should have thought very carefully about the impact it would have for the sport first......I believe the IPGA ... OWE's and I mean OWE,s Tom an apology.......Tom great achievement...new personal best and NEW INDIANA RECORD.....we all know how hard it is to get a fruit to weigh-off.....Tom if you have another fruit for Oct 5 take it to another site......wayne

Bruce,
I don't understand how the decision of the judges at Hubers Weigh off affect the IPGA'S credibility. Unless:
you where a judge
Hubers is part of the IPGA
Judges at Hubers didn't know what they were looking for
By the sounds of it, the fruit wasn't sound or it was sound and was damaged putting it on the scale and the judges didn't inspect it throughly, but if there is no connection between Hubers and the IPGA, you cannot reverse a decision made at another weigh off and I see no way it effects your organization's credibility.
Tom's record should stand and by you saying you won't recognize it does your organization more harm and correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think any organization has governing powers on whether a fruit is a record or not.
The only question mark(credibility factor) will fall on Huber's Weigh off and not on the IPGA.
Tom congradulations on the New Indiana State Record 1097.5 pounds.

Subject: INDIANA STATE RECORD
Dear Growers,
The IPGA Board has came to a decision on Tom Beachy's New state record. We will not be recognizing this as the new record . Our ruling has been a hard decision . Tom is one of the top
growers in Indiana & the first 1000+ in state . Under the rules this pumpkin passed an intial
inspection but it started leaking pumpkin juice on the scale. This we feel as a group is not a sound fruit. The weight was recorded at HUBERS weigh-off & won first prize. The judges at the show allowed the weight to stand at the show. As a fairly new growers association we do not want the integrity or credability of our group to be comprimised with the "judges" decision making. Hopefully all will understand our decision at this time.
Thanks,
Bruce Gatewood
President IPGA
