RE: INDIANA STATE RECORD

Hold on everyone, Don't go bashing the IPGA leadership.  This was/is a very
awkward situation that all of us witnessed, including the IPGA leadership.
I appreciate all the comments made on the subject, as it may help the
leadership in possibly revising their decision; however it is you who were
not there and did not observe what happened.  The decision should be solely
based on the individuals that were there and saw the event take place.

My advice to all, make sure your judges completely inspect the larger fruit
before it gets to the scale.  Have them physically place their hands on the
bottom of the fruit and check for soft areas.  Had this been done, there
would have been less of an argument, but still a controversy.  Was the fruit
cracked by the handling of the fruit on the scale?  Was there an overly soft
area that should have disqualified the fruit before it got to the scale?
There are far too many questions for anyone to adequately answer at this
point.  

In my humble opinion, the fruit was passed by the judges before it made it
to the scale, the damage was done on the scale.  We are splitting hairs in
trying to disqualify a 1097.5 lb pumpkin over what could have happened a
minute earlier or a minute later.  Regardless of the outcome,
Congratulations Tom on a fine accomplishment.

I don't live in Indiana, but I gotta tell you, it would be very hard for me 
to respect an organization that makes decisions like the one announced by 
the IPGA.  I equate it with the notion that a jury could return a verdict 
after a trial, and then another person, who had not seen the evidence 
presented at trial, could overturn the jury's verdict.  How can you presume 
to pass judgment on "leakage" that you yourselves did not inspect?  And 
since you did not inspect it, why would you disregard the judgment of those 
who did?  Absurd.  Shame on you.  You need better leadership, it seems to 
me.
