Brad please think.. ...you have put alot of work
into your organization and I commend you.... but you just answered your own
question regarding Tom's pumpkin....( do you think it should count if its
oozing fluid at a stead rate while still on the scales)....come on Brad you
didn't draw that conclusion then, you were right there apparently from the
e-mail you sent the list...... ??? Tom's not part of this....someone else
decided and he excepted it .....it stands and live with it....read rule 7 and
8 GPC....especially rule 8.....the judges reserve the right to fully inspect
each specimen before the weight is annouced and official. Refusal to allow the
inspection of an entry will cause said entry to be deemed EXHIBITION
ONLY....Brad you and any other IPGA board member there should have known
this...could have pointed it out..especially if this site was an IPGA
affiliate..look last year in Ottawa a pumpkin was brought to the weigh-off
that was borderline pumpkin or squash.the grower asked for it to be classified
if I remember correctly....the judges ruled it pumpkin...I am sure some
growers thought different....decision was final....should they now take back
the call.... let me see the 1260 Weir was judged a pumpkin....hmmm....heard
all kinds of opinions on that decision...I saw a picture ( all pumpkin to
me)...if others thought it was a squash tough, the judges decided....all I see
by the IPGA decision is to take away from Tom's moment....sad
day...wayne

Andrew and others,
The
weigh-off at Hubers is an IPGA affiliated weigh-off. As is the Indiana
State Fair and the Noblesville weigh-off. Maybe you need to read a
little closer. We accepted the judges decision that day and agreed
that Tom was the winner.
Andrew, if you bring a 1263 to the
weigh-off this year and set the new world record, do you think it should
count if it is oozing fluid at a steady rate while it is still on the scale?
If you can answer that yes with a clear conscience let me know.
For the record, the judges and the
host did approach me, the site coordinator, and ask me what they should do.
I told them this is situation we have never seen before. I also
ask them. Did it pass the final inspection you gave it? They
said "yes" By the rules the judges had every right to make the
decision the did. I agreed with them in their decision. However,
the question still remains. Was this pumpkin, that was still sitting
on the scale free of damage and rot? No
Would you like to
trade places with me?
Brad
