RE: INDIANA STATE RECORD/ Integrity ?

I have to stop this madness...the weight was read before anyone pointed out
the liquid to me, and I was at the tote board. It was pointed out
immediately after the weight was read as I remember, then a few seconds
later the weight was read again...1096. Being an Engineer, I know that that
is not anywhere near 1 to 2 gallons of water. One gallon of water weighs
around 8 pounds. Unless someone read the scales later, I find it hard to
believe that any where near that amount came out of the fruit.

Was there water...yes.
Does that mean it was rotting inside...yes.

But we had a perfectly sound fruit at our August weigh-off that was cut open
the next day to find a puddle of water inside...should that fruit have been
disqualified?

Again, we are splitting hairs on something that could have just as easily
happened 10 minutes before or after the fruit was on the scale. Tom grew an
excelent fruit and it was ruled official by the judges, don't ruin it by
bickering over it!

Take care all and try to enjoy this HOBBY! And by all means, grow a big
one!

Brad my friend you said it started to leak at the time of the second
lift to remove the remaining tarp....thats when they should have stopped
it from being official..am I wrong about when it leaked....believe thats
how you explained it in your e-mail to the list....ok Brad what did you
say to them ...did you explain that the judges could rule it unsound
before the weight became official.....an for influencing the
decision...YES you had a right to all growers to make it clear to the
judges that a unsound fruit could not qualify....1-2 gallons is not
clear enough.....sorry Brad I can't see your view here.....as for
dropping the ball I am sure you know.............wayne

Wayne,
Tom is also my friend just as you are. He already knows I
can't stand this whole thing. I did confer with the judges as the site
coordinator before a final decision was made. But one thing is for
sure, I am not going to influence that decision one way or another. Any
of you who think I should have need to review your ethics. I am the
Site Coordinator not a judge. The judges looked at it from a couple
different angles. Yes, it started leaking while still on the scale but
it also passed their full inspection 30 seconds prior to that. They
chose to call it official. So for you to suggest that I somehow dropped
the ball. Well, I am still trying to get a grasp on that one.

Brad
