Re: INDIANA STATE RECORD/ Integrity ?

Well, I can answer that. Anytime decisions are made, there will be second thoughts later. Rare indeed is the important decision that leaves everyone feeling satisfied.

Judging, refereeing, sitting on a jury, etc., these are all tough jobs. You can never be certain that the decision you have made is the best one. But, it is in the nature of the duty to MAKE a decision, and once it is made, that should be the end of it. People will gripe, but they will get over it. But, if the decision is subject to recision or modification at a later time, what then?

If an officiating organization wants time to reflect, then the rules should be modified accordingly: "In cases where doubt arises at the time of weighing as to the integrity of a pumpkin, the organization reserves the right to take the matter to a vote of the governing members. Interested parties shall have the right to submit a one-page written statement in support of their position. All submissions must be received within 24 hours of weighing. The decision of the governing body shall be rendered within 48 hours of the wieghing, and shall be deemed to be final." Or, something like that.

Drew and Wayne,
Are you both willing to say that if the IPGA
recognizes this that we are in no way sacrificing our integrity as a group?
This pumpkin was leaking while it was still on the scale. Don't you think we
should at least be concerned about this. The reason it took us a few days
was simple. The board has not had an easy time with this decision. We all
like Tom but do not want to be seen as a group that will allow a pumpkin not
up to standard be called a state record.
Does anyone on this list have a problem with it being a state record?
I am curious.

Brad
