I have to agree now with wayne. If there is a rule saying that the judges can inspect the pumpkin after it has been weighed to make sure that it was official, then this pumpkin is not official. But this rule is a bit hard to interpret. How long after the pumpkin is weighed can the judges inspect it. And what if someone drops the pumpkins or sabatages it after it has been weighed and nobody notices until the judges go to do their final inspection to make sure the weight is official. I guess Brad will have to concider all that while adjusting the rules. But for now, after seeing waynes last email, I would have to say it is unofficial.

Al your correct in your view of the rules and your view of the said pumpkin ..the question is why not the day and when it was on the scales...I personally believe it was an unsound fruit....I have proof...and thats all I will ever say regarding that....but my point is where do you draw the line....if one sits on the skid and 5 minutes later, splits open to ooze out a couple of gallons of rotten soap should it still count...it was rotten inside as well before the contest......a matter of timing ....I respect you very much, believe me..but Al when is it really official....they dropped the ball here when they watched it ooze liquid...had the IPGA board members not been there this would not be a very public thing....there were at least two....and rule 8 that they should know states the judges have the right to inspect the fruit before the weight becomes official...when they pulled the tarp out the second time lifting it they saw it pouring out liquid...Brad and Bill should have pulled the judges aside not the other way around...they had a responsability to all growers as well as the IPGA.......the only reason I feel it should be official is because they allowed the judges to rule it official....it was their affiliate...do they not have a say....I am sure it would have been well discussed in Ottawa or Port Elgin or any other large weigh-off before it was deemed official......maybe we should have an appeal process like the courts....boy would that create a mess...might take several years to get one official....I agree according to the rules it would be considered unsound and I am sure Andrew would agree..( remember now what Andrew meant before about taking a fruit to an early weigh-off)....but what does it mean judges decisions are final.?????.............if this happened to me and thats very possible, I would have to say I would disqualify it as a record myself and I know you would as well Al.....and boy that would be tough... .......wayne

Does the part of the rule stating-----"ENTRIES MUST BE FREE OF ROT"---mean anything to anybody???????



How much simpler could a sentence be??



Furthermore rot so far advanced that "1-2 gallons" of "rot water" flowed out when the AG rotted from the inside out,not the other way,as is more common.



It doesn't matter that the final wall rupture occurred in the normal course of handling at a weigh-off,that AG had been rotting for quite a while to make that much "pumpkin soup" and the weakened walls finally just gave up.



It doesn't matter how much work and dedication it took to grow a great AG---this is just one of many red herrings thrown into this mess.



These are just my personal comments,as a private grower, on a matter that seems so straight forward and clear.--AE
